Meet Cathy Breisacher , a local children’s author who successfully has two books being published this year.  Based on her experience, turning a picture book into a published book takes some serious time. So, having two in one year is a privilege.

Born and raised in Altoona, Cathy is a graduate from Penn State University where she earned a master’s degree in Counselor Education.  You might recognize Cathy, she was the guidance counselor at Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School for many years.

While working as a high school guidance counselor, her idea of writing picture books ignited. Cathy started attending conferences to learn more about publishing. In 2010, Cathy published her first picture book called “Petunia Pepper’s Picture Day”. After its release, she decided to earn her Library Science Degree and changed career paths. Six years ago, she became the librarian at both the Foot of Ten and Charles W. Longer Elementary schools.  Now she can focus on her writing.

“To me, a really good picture book is like a masterpiece.”, states Cathy. Her enthusiasm for writing shines through in each of her books. Just this month, “Cavekid Birthday” was released. This book is about two friends born on the same day, that come up with a way to celebrate together.

Cathy’s other book “Chip and Curly, the Great Potato Race” will be launched in May.

Her books are available on Amazon by clicking here or at Barnes and Noble. To learn more about this local author visit her on the web at www.cathybreisacher.com
